The Hip
The hip is one of the largest joints in the body. It is a ball and socket joint.
The socket is referred to as the acetabulum and is part of the pelvis.
The ball is the femoral head, the top of the thigh bone or femur.
In a healthy hip joint both the femoral head and acetabulum are covered by a smooth tissue called articular cartilage which allows the joint to move freely without pain.
